Circus On Ice: The Big Show in Toulouse (November 2019)

Circus On Ice: The Big Show in Toulouse takes place from the end of October until 11th November 2019. The marquee is set up on the parking across the Zénith, a multi-purpose indoor arena, in Toulouse.

Circus On Ice: The Big Show

1. ABOUT CIRCUS ON ICE

This is the very first time Circus on Ice tours in France. It is an event in itself as much on a technical than an artistic level. Indeed, it is a technical feat, which allows the moving 9000 tons of material and more particularly a real natural ice skating rink and its touring showroom across France.

It is also an artistic achievement with the circus stars, coming from the four corners of the world, mix with the ice skating stars.

The show is largely inspired by big American shows. The mix of circus and ice skating enthrals as much as astonishes the public through an original enchanting Live show.

The traditional sawdust circus ring leaves room to the authentic ice skating ring. The ice skating circus ballet, under the artistic direction of Veronika Kushnikova, attires itself in beautiful outrageous and shimmering costumes and brings you along with a whirlwind of dreams and emotions.

The show has around a dozen international artists in various realms working in fields such as balancing acrobatic, aerial straps, aerial loop/rope, acrobalance, ice skating, animal show, hula hoop, magic, juggling, clowning. Note, however, that I haven’t filmed everything.

2. CIRCUS ON ICE PERFORMANCES IN VIDEOS

Let’s start with a piece of ice skating performed by @allison.kymmel_official and her ice skating ballet company under the ‘Speed’ song by French singer-songwriter Zazie (note that the video isn’t upside-down despite the thumbnail showing otherwise):

Followed by an acrobalance  trio Empire composed of  @david_vasquez_leon, @duanyrruband @yordan_lombana performing under the ‘It’s Our Fight’ song by Steve Jablonsky:

Then followed two aerial shows:
  • Aerial straps with hair suspension performed under the ‘Phantom of the Opera’ song interpreted and played by violinist Lindsey Stirling.
  • Aerial rope/loop performed by @_jifg under the ‘Yalla’ song by French singer-songwriter Calogero.

The last human show I filmed, albeit very short, is the Rolla Bolla Balancing acrobat as follows:

And last but not least, I also filmed snippets of the dogs’ show by Gina Giovannis (private profile on Facebook):

Finally, you can catch a glimpse of other performances from the French tour with this overview video:

Duckstein Open-Air Festival Hamburg Hafen City 2015

Duckstein Festival

The summer has been filled so far with lots of open-air festivals in Hamburg (Germany), even if the weather hasn’t always been perfect! I attended the Duckstein festival at Magdeburg Harbour (in front of and next to the International Maritime Museum).

As you may have already guessed, Duckstein, the main festival sponsor, is a brewery. This brewery sells beers such as the Bavarian classic Hefeweiss, Pilsner, Dunkel and Altbier.

MAINLY ADULT AUDIENCE

The festival, due to its sponsor, was more adult-oriented. Shows during week time took place only in the evenings.

Furthermore, as you would probably be figuring out when visiting the festival website, you must be over 16 years of age to view its content. 16 years old is the minimum age to drink beers in Germany.

However, some of the shows were also open to families, in particular the circus shows.

For more information about this festival running in different cities of Germany during summertime, check their website.

DUCKSTEIN FESTIVAL LIVE SHOW RECORDINGS

BIG DADDY WILSON

I watched the wonderful and witty Big Daddy Wilson acoustic blues band with soul and gospel influences from Southern United States.

Big Daddy Wilson is originally from Edenton, North Carolina, where he sang in church. Then, he lived pretty much a country boy’s life. He didn’t know nor breakthrough with blues music back then.

Other artists such as Champion Jack Dupree, Louisiana Red, Eddie Boyd made Europe their home. They brought the blues with them and succeeded here better than in the U.S. And now there´s Big Daddy Wilson, an American singer and songwriter who found his home in Northern Germany.

But something is different regarding Big Daddy Wilson. When he came over from the U.S. there was no blues music in his baggage. He truly discovered his love for blues coming to Germany, where he has been awarded ‘Best Acoustic Artist’ in the Blues category.

His music is a fusion of gipsy queen from New Orleans, beats Jamaica-style as well as swing.

If you would like to buy his music or merchandise, check his website. You can also follow him on Facebook and Youtube.

KATAY SANTOS CIRCUS STREET SHOW

Later on, I had a good laugh watching the funny and interactive acrobatic Santos Circus street show coming all the way from Venezuela.

Katay Santos street circus artist started learning Capoeira in 1998, where he began to develop strong skills in:

  • music,
  • fight,
  • dance
  • Acrobatics.

In 2003, he studied at the National Circus School in Havana, Cuba. Then he studied at the Acrobatics Art School in Wuqiao, China (2007-2008) where he learned:

  • Handstand in High Chairs,
  • Pot Balancing
  • Chinese Pole.

In 2006, he became a part of the regular staff at many professional circus and theatre companies in Venezuela.  Back then, he created his own shows as “Santos y Bigotes”, “A Chinese Tale” and “Santos Circus Show”.

Since then, he has been touring extensively over 100 cities worldwide, entertaining a variety of audiences.

For more information about him and his travelling circus, check his website. You can also follow him on Facebook, InstagramTwitter and Youtube.

Diversity Crew – Limitless 4th UK/Ireland 2013 Tour in pictures and videos

For fans of Diversity Crew and hip hop styles dances or even acro balance, this is a post-event review in pictures and videos, you don’t want to miss out!

I have been lucky to be able to attend the Diversity Limitless show at the O2, Dublin, Ireland, last Saturday 30th November 2013.

First of all, to my amazement, the show wasn’t only about new style hip hop and the crew itself but gathered different dancers, gymnasts, magicians, and musicians.

I have taken some pictures and videos of the event as well as gathered information about the dancers, acrobats, and illusionist who took part in the event.

Now, let me do a brief presentation of the artists (with their pictures) who are not part of the Diversity Crew itself:

Antoine Marc

Antoine Marc was born in Martinique (French Caribbean Island) and started to dance ballet at 4 years of age at the Caribbean Ballet School of Betty Bylon. He has also been an aerialist and acrobat, working for international productions.

Ling

Ling started dancing in 2004 as a self-taught b-boy, becoming part of the dance group trinity warriors in 2008. He has also become a worldwide competitor.

Acropolis

Acropolis is composed of female and male international elite Great Britain medal-winning acrobats and gymnasts.

Boadicea Ladies

Boadicea dance company was brought together by leading female artist Rhimes Lecointe (street dance 3D and into the hoods) to be a kink in the realm hip hop and commercial dance.

Frazer Freeze

Frazer ‘Freeze’ Bennett is a music producer, composer, and mashup artist from Bournemouth, UK, who fuses urban music with orchestral arrangements, funk, soul, hip hop, R’n’B, pop, dubstep and electronic music.

James Moore

James Moore is a master illusionist doing all his tricks ‘live’  with no camera edits or special edits.

Secondly, you will find below a snapshot of the show story plot:
