Souljazz Orchestra
First of all, Canada’s hardest-working combo, Souljazz Orchestra band, perfects their signature through a percussive explosion of:
- Soul
- Jazz
- Afro
- Latin
- and Caribbean rhythms.
They deliver:
- unleashed blaring majestic horns
- dusty vintage keyboards
- and heavy percussion sounds.
RELEASED ALBUMS
Furthermore, the multicultural collective surfaces with a hard-hitting new record in 2015, ‘Resistance’. This album resumes its link-up with UK-based Strut Records.
The composer Pierre Chrétien explains that they approached this album with a fresh ear. He says as well that: “We were keen to build on the band’s sound and message. So, I brought in some of the French Caribbean and Francophone West African influences that I’ve loved since my youth.”
Consequently, the new album adds fresh dancefloor-oriented elements of:
- Coupé-Décalé
- Zouk
- and Ndombolo.
The resulting album is a defiant celebration of social justice and human empowerment.
MUSIC AWARDS
On the other hand, their first three released albums:
- Freedom No Go Die (2006, featuring the single ‘Mista President’)
- Manifesto (2008)
- Rising Sun (2010)
were nominated for Juno Awards.
SOULJAZZ ORCHESTRA BAND TOURING
Last but not least, the Ottawa-based sextet brings its dynamite show across the globe.
They share bills along the way with heavyweights such as:
- Stevie Wonder
- Bob Dylan
- and Femi Kuti.
